Brewed cacao is beneficial for acid reflux disease due to its lower acidity content and abundance of polyphenols. Lower acidity reduces the pH of the acidity in the stomach and the polyphenols help reduce and soothe inflammation caused by the acid reflux. The pH level of cacao brew is between 6 and 7, making it almost neutral on the pH scale. Comparatively, coffee is around a pH of 5 making it much more acidic than brewed cacao.
When it comes to hot beverages, choices are limited when taking into consideration caffeine levels, acidity, and general wellness. Many people struggle with the acidity in coffee but also struggle with caffeine. Caffeine isn't inherently unhealthy and isn't a problem for most people, however, many dietary restrictions forbid the consumption of caffeine which also includes many teas. Hot beverages are satisfying but there's not that many of them. For the most part it's either coffee or tea, whether herbal or leaf. There's always hot chocolate but that contains lots of sugar which negates any health benefits (plus most cocoa powders are not healthy at all either).
Where does that leave someone with acid reflux but still wants a healthy, warm beverage? That's where our ground cacao comes in. Brewed cacao hits the spot like coffee but without the caffeine or acidity so you can drink it morning, day, or night. You can also put milk in it and customize it however you want. To keep it natural and full of antioxidants, you can put in a splash of maple syrup as a natural sweetener.
